County Board District 1 Map

District one consists much of Highland and the Trenton addresses of Madison County.

In simple terms, a County Board member:

Approves the county budget — decides how taxpayer money is allocated.
Funds county services such as public safety, courts, the jail, public health, mental health programs, veterans services, and other county functions.
Oversees county spending — making sure departments and programs are operating responsibly.
Votes on contracts and major expenditures involving county government.
Helps oversee county departments and agencies through committees and board actions.
Promotes public safety
Deals with infrastructure and economic development issues that fall under county government.
Listens to constituents and brings their concerns to county government.
Serves on committees, where much of the detailed work is done before an issue comes before the full board for a vote.
